There’s one stretch of the Boise Greenbelt I walk every single fall. Same path, same bridge, same water holding all that orange.
It gets me every year. Something about it just feels warm.
Gold and rust in every direction, doubled in the reflection. This one is a sit-by-the-window-in-October kind of puzzle.

The camas bloom out here is fickle. Some years you time it right and the prairie goes purple for a week. Some years you drive all that way and stand in the wet grass with nothing but sky, and it’s still worth the trip.
This is a place I keep going back to. It has a way of slowing you down.

I planned this one. Scouted it, watched the forecast, drove a road rough enough that I questioned myself more than once on the way in.
Then the last light hit the snow and turned the whole range pink for about ten minutes.
It ended up being one of my favorite adventures. The snow and rock give you a lot to work with here.

This is one of the places I go when I need to sit down and be quiet.

I almost missed this one. I got there late, the mosquitos found me within about four seconds, and I sat down and shot every single frame of that sunset anyway.
Worth every bite. Pink and purple stacked up over the water, wildflowers going wild along the bank.
This is my favorite sunset I’ve ever photographed, and it’s the most colorful puzzle in the shop. All that sky is the fun part.

I wasn’t planning to stop here. I pulled over because I already knew this spot and I wanted a minute to just breathe.
The meadow was full of wildflowers, the Sawtooth peaks still had snow on them, and I had the whole place to myself.
Purple and white scattered through the grass gives you plenty to sort by. Easy to lose an hour in this one.

I came to the Sawtooths for a retreat in May and ended up standing in front of McGown.
Peak with nothing to say. Cold air, snow still on the ridges, the whole lake holding perfectly still.
I fell in love with that mountain that day. I’ve been going back ever since.
Blue sky, dark timber, and a shoreline full of texture to work through. This one is good company for a slow evening.

The Payette River runs green under a canyon of gold for about two weeks every October. This is autumn along the Payette River between Banks and McCall, Idaho.
I shot this on a cold morning in mid October, pulled off on the shoulder with the engine still ticking. The light took an hour to come over the canyon rim and the color changed the whole time I waited. Fall here is short and it does not wait for your schedule. This was one of the good days.

This was one of the biggest solar storms in years. It reached so far south that people in Mexico were seeing it.
